Returning students and a new class of Bruins were met this fall with the results of several mobility revitalization projects undertaken by UCLA Transportation. Among them:
Intersection upgrades at Westholme Ave and Charles E. Young Dr East to improve pedestrian flow near Bruin Walk, replacing a traffic signal with stop signs and adding a new crosswalk near Parking Structure 2.
Traffic calming on Charles E. Young Dr West and De Neve Dr uses optical speed bars to slow vehicles through visual cues.
Expanded bus parking on Charles E. Young Dr North to improve safety for boarding and exiting.
New bus pad and sidewalk on the south side of the road to enhance access to central campus without crossing traffic.
Three benches at the Luskin Conference Center stop for a more comfortable waiting area for transit riders.
“Our mobility revitalization efforts contribute to creating a healthier, safer, greener and more vibrant campus that is inclusive for all Bruins and visitors. A campus where physical activity and healthy transportation modes are supported — with transit-oriented development — reducing pollution and fostering social interaction,” said Dave Karwaski, director of mobility planning and traffic systems for UCLA Transportation, and co-lead of HCI’s BEWell pod.
“Mobility features further transform UCLA into a high-quality urban landscape.”
