Dining

Chef Joey Martin spoke with the UCLA Newsroom about UCLA Dining’s effort to support and promote sustainability in operations across its portfolio of restaurants.

EdSource featured UCLA Dining’s collaboration with BruinDine – a student-run organization that recovers and redistributes uneaten food from UCLA dining halls to students and UCLA employees.

Food service workers Veronica Garibaldi and Evangelina Hernandez, both of whom work at Rendezvous, and their sons, Jaime Cardona and Rafael Hernandez, were featured in a Daily Bruin story highlighting family bonds in UCLA Dining. 

Bruin Recipes from Home, an opportunity that allows students to submit their favorite family recipes for a chance to see them scaled up and served in UCLA’s dining halls, was featured by the Daily Bruin.

Senior Executive Chef Joey Martin was featured in an article published by Bruin Life that highlighted his journey to UCLA, the inspiration behind his love for the UCLA community, and the lengths the dining team goes to in order to create world-class food for world-class students.

The Daily Bruin explored how UCLA Dining provides international students with a taste of home through cultural food nights and programs like Global Bites and Recipes from Home.

Facilities Management

Lizett Martinez, director of custodial and grounds for Facilities Management, spoke with the UCLA Newsroom about her role overseeing custodial and grounds crews across UCLA’s 419-acre campus, ensuring services are delivered consistently, safely and in support of UCLA’s mission. 

As part of its Earth Month coverage, the UCLA Newsroom highlighted Transportation’s efforts to provide students, faculty and staff with an ever-increasing number of environmentally friendly ways to travel.

Senior custodian Daniel Estrada recently took center stage as one of 10 speakers at TEDxUCLA, offering a perspective shaped not by lecture halls or laboratories but by years spent observing university life behind the scenes. 

The Daily Bruin went behind the scenes to share a look at the creativity and craftsmanship of team members at the UCLA Sign Shop. 

Housing

UCLA staffer Benjamin Paul shared the story of “growing up Bruin” with UCLA Magazine in a first-person account of his experience living in family housing from ages 4-16. 

The Real Deal covered the Regents of the University of California's approval of a project to construct a 19-story, approximately 310,000-square-foot tower at 901 Levering Avenue.

Transportation

Twenty-five years of sustainable transportation programs at UCLA have shown that the commuting revolution will take place on public transportation, with declining daily vehicle trips giving way to over 29,000 university-issued transit passes. UCLA Transportation’s State of the Commute 2025 report highlights this increase in participation in university transit programs, with students, staff and faculty all hopping on.
