Quick Tip: Mental Health

Your Mental Health Matters

Mental health plays a large role in our ability to be our best. While factors outside our control can impact mental health positively or negatively, there are options for facilitating the best environment for your mental wellbeing. Tips for taking care of your mental health:

  1. Get enough sleep: Sleeping for 7-9 hours per night can have a positive impact on your mental health.
  2. Move your body: Moving your body can be a great way to boost your mood. Even just going for a short walk at some point in the day can be enough to increase energy levels.
  3. Set small goals: If you are feeling overwhelmed with your professional or personal responsibilities, start with small steps to tackle tasks and celebrate the wins.
  4. Stay connected: Keeping up relationships with friends and family can aid in reducing feelings of isolation and give you a support system to get through hard times
  5. Practice Mindfulness: engaging in deep breathing or meditation can help reduce feelings of being overwhelmed and help you to feel focused
  6. Seek professional help if you are struggling: UCLA Staff and Faculty Counseling Center is a fantastic resource during times of uncertainty and increased stress.

Though small steps can feel insignificant in the moment, they can snowball overtime and lead to better habits and outcomes in the long run. By consistently taking these steps, you create a positive momentum that makes it easier to maintain and enhance your mental well-being.
