True Bruin Values Eligibility Requirements
- Any UCLA career staff member, Management and Senior Professional (MSP) employee, in good standing with at least one year of UCLA service is eligible.
- Nominees must have a sustained record of excellence during their employment and outstanding citizenship in the university community.
- Employees in student status, faculty, current True Bruin Value committee members, and previous recipients of the award are not eligible.
- Nominees must have the following UC trainings completed:
- Abusive Conduct in the Workplace Training
- COVID-19 Pandemic Training
- Cyber Security Awareness Training
- Ethical Values and Conduct Training
- Sexual Violence/Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Program
- Emergency Evacuation Training
Respect
- Nominee demonstrates excellent regard for others’ rights, traditions, feelings, and points-of-views. They actively develop professional, kind, and mutually enriching interpersonal relationships with members of the UCLA community.
- Nominee has demonstrated the ability to leverage the differences of the individuals they interact with in order to effectively work through conflict or difficult situations.
- Nominee supports diversity, equity, and inclusion by using the advantage of effective collaboration on programs and projects.
Accountability
- Nominee takes responsibility for honest and ethical conduct towards others, extending to students, staff, faculty, and the wider campus community.
- Nominee takes ownership for tasks and projects, actively seeks feedback on the outcomes and impacts, and is an exemplary steward of university’s resources.
- Nominee conducts themselves with tact and grace when dealing with difficult subject matters, deadlines, personalities, or processes.
Integrity
- Nominee consistently demonstrates transparency, honesty, and reliability in their work and interactions with others.
- Nominee’s actions have had an exemplary impact to the customer or community member's experience.
- Consistently engages others and collaborates to foster an environment of integrity in the workplace.
Service
- Nominee demonstrates a commitment to public service with quantifiable examples of their positive impact on the Bruin community.
- Nominee provides an effective and proactive approach to process improvements to address the Bruin community's needs.
- Nominee takes a leadership role in collaborating with groups, organizations, and partnering with stakeholders to address community challenges.
Excellence
- Nominee goes above and beyond to produce impactful results.
- Nominee leads by example, demonstrates the qualities and characteristics of leadership, and consistently seeks to engage others.

Nomination windows open twice per year and winners will be announced shortly thereafter. TBV award recipients will be honored at a breakfast with Vice Chancellor Beck and receive a certificate of recognition, a commemorative TBV jacket, and two tickets to qualified UCLA events. Nominee forms will be reviewed by a committee of your peers, the True Bruin Values committee, and submitted for a final vote to the Administration Leadership Team (ALT).
