Mark your calendar: Sustainable Transportation Month

Sustainable Transportation Month event table

This October, UCLA Transportation invites the Bruin community to participate in Sustainable Transportation Month 2026, a celebration of greener commuting choices and their benefits. Every sustainable transportation choice, instead of a solo car trip, helps reduce traffic congestion and supports UCLA's commitment to a better future.

A highlight of the celebration is the annual Sustainable Transportation Month Fair on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Bruin Plaza. The event features interactive vendor exhibits (including partners like LA Metro), treats, and prize giveaways. Campus organizations and transportation partners will share information and resources on getting to UCLA and around L.A.

In addition, the UCLA community is encouraged to use sustainable transportation at least one time during the month of October. Those who pledge to do so will be entered into a prize drawing for a variety of items, including a two-night stay at UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge, a meal for two at Plateia, and gift cards.

For more than 25 years, UCLA has offered sustainable transportation programs for faculty, staff, and students, making commutes to campus easier, less expensive and more convenient. Among them, free and subsidized transit passes, bike programs, electric vehicle charging and commuter support services. Sustainable Transportation Month spotlights these programs while encouraging the campus community to try something other than driving alone.

Choosing sustainable transportation can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, support physical well-being and contribute to a more connected community. Small changes, such as taking the bus once a week or biking to campus a few times a month, can collectively make a significant difference. By working together and making thoughtful transportation choices, Bruins can help create a cleaner, healthier and more resilient Los Angeles.
