Over the past four years, the U.S. blood supply has been a recurring concern, with periods of crisis and recovery and a long-term decline in donor participation. UCLA encourages all healthy, eligible Bruins to consider making a life-saving donation to the UCLA Blood and Platelet Center. As Bruins, we pride ourselves on service, compassion and making a positive impact. By donating blood, we can help ensure UCLA medical patients receive excellent care and treatment.
In addition, all recorded donations will be counted toward UCLA’s participation in the 2026 We Give Blood competition. Abbott and the Big Ten Conference will award a $1 million grant towards student and community health to the school with the most donations. Last year, UCLA contributed 2,584 donations, led the conference in first‑time donors, and recorded one of the highest in‑city donation rates of any school in the competition.
Donations made by UCLA students, faculty, staff, alumni and other supporters between Wednesday, Aug. 12 and Friday, Dec. 4 will count toward UCLA’s total.
Note to employees
All employees are welcome to participate, including those working remotely. Eligible employees will receive a donation certificate for four hours of paid administrative leave. Complimentary parking will be provided if needed.
How to donate and log your donation

How to add your donation to the UCLA total
After you have donated, (1) take a photo or save your donation confirmation, (2) log your donation at Big Ten | Abbott or text GIVEBLOOD to 222688 (ABBOTT) and (3) track the leaders on the Big Ten | Abbott site throughout the campaign.
