Colleagues,
In times of change, developing skills and fostering growth are essential to maintaining productivity and high engagement. It’s critical that our employees feel valued and supported, ensuring they are well-equipped to respond to the opportunities and challenges that change may bring. We want to remind you about the various certificates and professional development opportunities available to you by Campus Human Resources’ (CHR’s) Leadership & Organizational Development (L&OD) team.
CHR L&OD encourages the professional development of UCLA leaders through 3 key certificates: the Supervisory Leadership Principles Certificate, the Supervisory HR Principles Certificate, and the Management Development Certificate.
The Certificates
The Supervisory Leadership Principles Certificate is designed to increase understanding of supervisory role requirements, broaden awareness of one’s strengths, and enhance mastery of leadership skills in the university setting. It is recommended for all UCLA staff and faculty who are relatively new to supervision, longer-term supervisors wanting to update or reinforce their skills and knowledge, and non-supervisors who aspire to supervisory positions.
The Supervisory HR Principles Certificate is designed for supervisors who want to develop their people management skills by building a deeper understanding of HR policies and practices as they relate to supervisory leadership of complex HR compliance issues. The courses in this series are available to UCLA staff and faculty who currently supervise others.
The long-standing Management Development Certificate has been updated and is designed to provide skill-building for management-level employees, enhancing their effectiveness in their current roles and preparing them for future leadership opportunities. The courses in this certificate’s curriculum are available to UCLA managers in roles classified at the following levels (including equivalent academic classifications):
- Roles currently classified under the Career Tracks system:
- MGR1 through MGR4
- Professional 4 and 5
- Roles still classified under the pre-Career Tracks system:
- MSP – all levels
- PSS-5 through PSS-7
Self-Paced Courses Availability
New self-paced courses are now part of this certificate series, and several previously live courses are now available in a self-paced format. These new offerings allow more leaders to participate and also reduce the overall expense of acquiring a certificate.
