UCLA was recently named the best public university in the nation for the 8th year in a row. This honor never loses its luster, and the contributions from the more than 4,700 team members comprising UCLA Administration are an essential element that enables this national recognition we receive each year to be possible. In honor of UCLA’s 8th year on top, here are eight ways that you, our incredibly talented team members, add to UCLA’s success (in no particular order):
- UCLA is known for being a beautiful and clean campus. Our groundskeepers, custodians and housekeepers create an inviting environment for learning, socializing, research and relaxation. Their work also supports our campus sustainability efforts through waste reduction, water conservation and increasing levels of native plants at UCLA.
- The environment and safety teams help provide for a safer environment for workers, students and visitors. Their commitment to safety supports excellence in research, education and support services.
- Our dining and hospitality teams set the standard for quality and service. The culture of caring exemplifies our commitment to providing exceptional Bruin experiences. As an example, the dining team captured another top national ranking for Best College Food. This marks the sixth year in a row and the eighth time in the past decade that our dining team has been No. 1. In addition, our Luskin Conference Center, Inn at UCLA, and Lake Arrowhead Lodge compete with the most prestigious hotels and conference facilities.
- Our campus human resources colleagues help us hire, onboard, train and retain a talented group of individuals who bring their talents and hard work in support of our campus mission. This includes everything from revamping our UCLA Careers website and New Employee Orientation, facilitating resources like free LinkedIn Learning accounts for all employees and a host of professional and career development opportunities, as well as managing benefits and retirement processes.
- IT Services play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing UCLA’s technological infrastructure, enabling teaching, research and administrative functions in innovative ways. As the department works to complete its transformational Reimagine IT plan, it is also working to ensure that our campus excels and has even better tools needed for future success.
- Our facilities and housing managers and team members handle trouble calls and requests for maintenance promptly and efficiently. Because of them, our lecture halls, research labs, performance spaces, residence halls, conference and meeting spaces and all our other physical spaces operate smoothly.
- Our colleagues in Events and Transportation support Bruins in everything from move-in weekend in the fall to commencement season in the spring to promoting sustainable transportation and sustainability, providing discounted tickets for events and activities and reduced-cost transit passes for all UCLA students and employees.
- Our team members in our centrally serving units provide important financial and budgetary support, strategic planning, process improvement, leadership training, marketing, and communication support to our Administration units; and our sustainability team is leading the campus efforts to better protect our community and our planet.
This is just a glimpse of what we do to provide exceptional Bruin experiences, and it is certainly not a full picture. No matter what area of Administration you work in or what job you hold, your work is critical to our success. As we close out another calendar year, I am grateful for all the amazing work that everyone on our team does that enables UCLA to excel in such profound ways. I look forward to seeing what we accomplish together in 2025.
Sincerely,
Michael Beck
Administrative Vice Chancellor
