Calendar on a desk

The start of the new school year is a perfect time to remind the Bruin community about a variety of important topics and connect with people from across campus. Your colleagues in UCLA Administration are busy putting the finishing touches on a number of educational campaigns that you are invited to participate in, including:

Cybersecurity Awareness Month: Deepfakes and generative AI

Whether it’s a fake video of a leader, a scam call using cloned voices or a misleading image online — we all need to stay sharp. October marks Cybersecurity Awareness Month, an annual global initiative that promotes online safety and cyber resilience by educating individuals and organizations about common threats and best practices for protection.

Join the team from Digital and Technology Solutions at McClure Stage (Bruin Plaza) and in Dickson Court North on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Spin the prize wheel, win some swag and learn more about cybersecurity, including phishing scams, ransomware, social engineering, insider threats and DDoS attacks.

(Interested in seeing some of the phishing scams that are reported to the information security office? Visit the UCLA Phish Bowl)

In addition, visit and bookmark the UCLA Cybersecurity Awareness Month website for information and resources to help keep you safe online. While there, test your cybersecurity knowledge by completing a quiz for a chance to win two tickets to the USC vs. UCLA football game on Saturday, Nov. 29.

Sustainable Transportation Month

This October, UCLA Transportation invites you to take part in Sustainable Transportation Month — a campus-wide celebration of eco-friendly commuting. Pledge to try biking, walking, carpooling or public transit just once during the month, and be entered to win exciting prizes like gift cards and UCLA Football tickets!

UCLA makes it easy for eligible employees to choose sustainable commuting options. Enjoy deeply discounted transit passes for seven major lines serving campus, plus access to many other transit agencies across Los Angeles County.

Consider carpooling! Find a Bruin in your area and save money with a discounted parking permit.

If you live close to campus, think about walking or biking. UCLA supports active commuters with miles of bike lanes, over 3,500 bike parking spaces, and many other resources for cyclists — including benefits totaling $100 in value for eligible employees.

Visit an on-campus pop-up event to spin the prize wheel and learn about sustainable transportation options:

  • Monday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center
  • Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gateway Plaza
  • Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wilson Plaza (Sustainable Transportation Fair with giveaways and vendor exhibits)
