Thank you for helping UCLA remain No. 1

Article Vert_Michael Beck

UCLA was recently ranked the No. 1 public university in the nation for the sixth consecutive year, and the role of each member of the units that comprise UCLA Administration is critical to this success. Together, we create the environment and tools that enable future research discoveries and develop future teachers, doctors, lawyers, nurses, technicians, scientists, innovators, writers, filmmakers, and business and political leaders, to name a few.

No matter your role at UCLA, your work allows the people we serve to be at their best and achieve their highest aspirations. Your efforts make lasting impressions on individuals, and I am constantly impressed with all of the fantastic work you do.

The last few years, as you know, have challenged us both personally and professionally. The pandemic impacted our families and friends, as well as our work and us as individuals. As an organization, UCLA Administration continues to demonstrate flexibility and creativity in managing through this dynamic period and starting to build out following more than $450 million in lost revenue during the pandemic.

The pandemic transformed how we work and how we operate as an organization. As we prepare for the future, we will need to determine the best way to meet our expectations for service excellence and the needs of our team members. As we explore ways to balance these goals, we must remain focused on our mission to deliver quality customer-oriented services and programs that provide a strong foundation for UCLA to excel. UCLA did not become and cannot remain the No. 1 public institution in the country without the successful implementation of the strong foundational programs and services provided by Administration units.

As we head into the holiday season, I encourage you to reflect on everything you've done to help support our campus community and one another through your innovative ideas, thoughtful gestures and hard work this year. Every aspect is important and appreciated, and it goes a long way in helping us create friendships, teams and departments — and a university campus — that we can all draw from and be proud of.

Wishing you the very best as 2022 comes to a close.  I am so proud of all you have achieved and looking forward to 2023.  Thank you for all your hard work and commitment to excellence.
