UCLA Transportation wins Green Fleet Award

Green Fleet Zero Emission Shuttle Bus

UCLA Transportation has been recognized with a Green Fleet Award for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from university fleet vehicles. Among its competitors, UCLA came in at No. 37 in the nation and No. 4 among university fleets in the United States.

Daily transportation made by members of the campus community affects emissions, and UCLA Transportation has lowered the environmental impact of these travel choices by incorporating clean power sources.

Of UCLA’s nearly 1,100 fleet vehicles, 62% are alternatively fueled and include all-electric vehicles. Producing no tailpipe emissions are shuttle buses that support patient care at the medical centers, vans that provide paratransit service and evening transportation for Bruins and visitors, and the BruinBus, which transports more than one million passengers each year.

The university fleet provides essential transportation to faculty, staff and students 365 days a year, with different vehicles used for operational services, administrative duties and academic activities. These tools of the trade help employees travel to jobsites across campus, take professors off-road to teach courses in the field and aid student groups participating in extracurricular opportunities.

Efforts to cut down on traditional fuel consumption, decrease pollution and improve air quality continue to rev up with UCLA Transportation on track to run a completely carbon neutral fleet by 2025.
